Lyara (Maceió, Alagoas, 1995) is a visual artist who dedicates her work to investigating the processes of transmutation, death and life, decomposition and recomposition, through a fabulation of mythologies of existence, using wood as her main working material.
Produces sculptures and multimedia installations, specializing in wood sculpture, through a blend of traditional joinery techniques, popular and intuitive carpentry with a contemporary approach.
It proposes an investigation into itself through the material being worked with, a movement of translocation, bringing together body and wood, both living materials. Exploring which transformations are applicable, the similarities in composition, the possible rearrangements, and the properties to be assimilated.
Her research develops through autobiographical excerpts, family memories, and dreams, proposing a contemplation of the mystery and the processes of death and rebirth that are inherent in a life. She recreates and reinterprets the experience of dreams and memories, both intimate and private, evoking unconscious memory related to the subject matter, interposing presence and absence.
A highlight is the exhibition “Dead Roots Still Dance on the Earth” (Deodoro Cultural Complex, Alagoas, 2023), in collaboration with Lucas Cardoso. She was an artist-in-residence at the Kaaysá Art Residency for the development of the series “Every Day I Offer the Soil the Remains of Myself” (São Paulo, 2024).

Her practice is a personal inquiry through the material itself—a movement of translocation—bringing body and wood closer together, both as living matter. She investigates the transformations they undergo, their compositional similarities, potential rearrangements, and properties to be absorbed.
Her research draws on autobiographical fragments, family memories, and dreams, inviting contemplation of the mystery and the cyclical processes of death and rebirth that unfold within a single lifetime. She recreates and re-signifies the experience of dreams and memories—intimate and private—evoking unconscious memory in dialogue with her themes, intertwining presence and absence.
Notable among her works is the exhibition Dead Roots Still Dance over the Earth (Complexo Cultural Deodoro, Alagoas, 2023), in collaboration with Lucas Cardoso. She was a resident artist at Kaaysá Art Residency, where she developed the series Every Day I Offer to the Ground Peels of Myself (São Paulo, 2024).
